The second wave of COVID-19 has become catastrophic and a humanitarian crisis has unfolded in the country. After overwhelming the hospitals in cities and towns, COVID-19 is spreading into the rural areas where health infrastructure is far weaker than that in cities. Rural areas are now accounting for over 50% of all the reported cases and hundreds of patients are dying unable to access medical treatment. Many families are facing starvation due to loss of income opportunities.
